Astronomy has been a passion of mine since I was 8 years old. I was fortunate enough in 2001 to have interviewed Sir Patrick Moore at his home for a BBC programme - (I produced a twelve minute radio programme which is available on CD). Around that time I began giving my 'Spacetalks' workshops to primary school pupils aged between 5 & 11, (group sizes range from 20 to 120+), at various schools, libraries and societies around Hertfordshire, London, Sussex, Surrey and Kent. I have been involved with children's workshops and promotion at the South Downs Planetarium in Chichester for fifteen years now, and have travelled numerous times to the southern African country of Namibia, where I occasionally work as guest astronomer at Sossusvlei Desert Lodge in the Namib Desert. My approach is very practical. Astronomy is for everyone, and most of the 'tools' I bring to schools are things that I have made myself, which I feel adds a real, 'hands on' feel to it, and gives children the knowledge that they too can bring the Universe to their fingertips. I am a member of Mid Kent Astronomical Society, and I also teach music to children in primary schools around Kent, as well as producing my own music. This website shows a wide overview of my love of the stars - I am happy to discuss your school or club's requirements and adapt accordingly. You're never too young to start asking big questions about life and the Universe, and Astronomy provides a never-ending landscape in which to safely explore. My aim is to inspire children and leave them with an overall impression that Space is an exciting, mysterious and wondrous place; to create a small spark that may even develop into a life-long interest or career.
